Tower Legal Solutions Triples DC Office Space

Burgeoning Demand for “Contract” Lawyers by Corporations and Law Firms Drives Tower Growth

Tower Legal Staffing Washington DC Office Tripled in Size

Tower Legal Solutions’ Washington, DC office has nearly tripled its real estate footprint. To its current 2,900 square feet of office space at 1212 New York Avenue, the company has added nearly 9,000 square feet of new document review space at 1310 G Street, already open and providing clients with contract legal services.

DC is Tower’s fastest-growing office and its real estate holdings were expanded to keep pace with the demand by its corporate and law firm clients for cost-effective offsite temporary legal staffing and managed review services on document reviews and foreign language translations, in particular.

“Tower’s growth,” says Leslie Firtell, President of this WBENC-certified provider of outsourced legal services, “is driven by the rapidly increasing demand for cost-efficient document review. And,” she adds, “in addition to providing document review space and technology, there is a greater increase in the number of reviews that we are directly managing for our clients. By utilizing our managed review services, we have helped our clients save millions of dollars.”

“This is a growing trend on the part of corporations and law firms,” confirms Raoul Mills, head of Tower’s DC operations. “They turn to Tower as an extremely flexible, creative and cost-efficient supplement to outside counsel — particularly when they face document intensive discovery. Because we staff all types of cases and offer an array of staffing solutions, clients can choose the most cost-effective option without sacrificing quality. Whether Tower provides contract attorneys on a Second Request, investigation or large-scale litigation, clients save a tremendous amount of money, and by adding that extra layer of managed review, Tower further reduces their cost of document review.”

For clients preferring to keep contract workers offsite, Tower’s new offices permit the company to house and oversee a growing team of skilled professionals to execute document review, foreign language translation and legal research. The firm also provides permanent and substantive temporary legal staffing services.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————–
In only four years, Tower Legal Solutions’ young management team has quickly built this WBENC-certified enterprise from the ground up, leveraging its high professional standards to build a smooth-running legal services SWAT unit that provides law firm and corporate clients with exceptional temporary attorneys, paralegals, project management and foreign language services. Tower can — and has — launched a large document review project with less than 24-hour notice, and stepped into a floundering review project managed by a competing firm and successfully refocused the project to meet critical budgets and deadlines.

2011 Law Grads Should Look to the Temp Market

NALP just released a report stating that class of 2010 graduates faced the worst job market since mid-1990s and it will likely be worse for 2011 graduates. However, with the increased demand for temporary staff by law firms and corporations, graduates should not despair because with the right qualifications there will be plenty of opportunities to obtain employment through the temporary legal staffing industry.

Providing Value in a Challenging Legal Market

I recently read the New York State Bar Association’s, Report of the Task Force on the Future of the Legal Profession, dated April 2, 2011, which among other topics, examined several ways in which law firms should look to change how they deliver legal services to their clients in order to survive in this changing market.  Law firms are now confronting issues that those of us in contract legal staffing and document review management have known for quite some time: Clients want exceptional talent and service performed in the most cost-effective way.  Law firms are engaged by their clients to help them with their most sophisticated and complex legal work.  However, simultaneously, law firms will have to implement cost containment measures in order to further reduce the bill. The ability to manage cost and deliver value without a reduction in quality is critical.  One of the ways to achieve this in litigation, for example, is to have contract attorneys and/or paralegals assist with discovery. As part of an alternative fee arrangement, a portion of the bill will be allotted to the fixed cost of contract staff. Those firms that do so will not only be providing their clients with a tremendous cost savings but they are enabling their clients to have greater predictability over their legal expenses not to mention generating good will. As we move forward, the law firms that understand that partnering with trusted outside vendors to provide cost containment measures to their projects will have a competitive edge over the law firms that continue with business as usual.

Onshoring- Are There Challenges?

onshoring, legal, talent, staffing, charlotte, richmondOnshoring legal work to lower cost markets such as Charlotte, NC and Richmond, VA in an effort to keep the work in the US isn’t without its challenges. To begin with, most of these markets have a limited pool of lawyers seeking temporary legal work. With the exception of recent law school graduates, most of these cities don’t see a significant increase in new legal talent throughout the year. In addition, as competition among staffing agencies increase, the market becomes saturated and there are less people to go around. Recruiting from nearby cities is an option but not without risk to the contractors who are bearing the travel and housing expense.

In Today’s News: Jobless rate declines, how is it affecting you?

The unemployment rate for February is at 8.9%, the lowest level since April of 2009. 192,000 jobs were added last month. According to the report, 47,000 were jobs in the professional and business services industry, of which we believe law jobs are included.

From our perspective as a legal staffing firm, that’s encouraging news. We’ve been very busy staffing jobs these last few months and we see that accelerating.

We want to hear how this trend is affecting you over the last year. If you’re a contract attorney, what have you noticed? Comment below and share your personal story.
